Billy Howard is a commercial and documentary photographer whose work focuses on health, education and social themes. He has published four books of photography, including Angels and Monsters: A Child’s Eye View of Cancer; Epitaphs for the Living: Words and Images in the Time of AIDS; and Portrait of Spirit: One Story at a Time with an introduction by Christopher Reeve. His work has been exhibited internationally and has been featured on “Good Morning America,” “CBS This Morning,” and NPR’s “Performance Today.” His photographs were projected in the Olympic Stadium during the opening ceremonies to the 1996 Summer Olympic Games. He has been on assignment throughout the world and has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Georgia Council for the Arts and the Southern Arts Federation. He received an honorary doctor of literature degree from St. Andrews College and was an artist-in-residence at the National School of Photography in Arles, France.
