Course: Summer Intensive 2012

With a grandfather who was a professional photographer, photography is in my blood. I have always loved taking pictures and for a long time I was happy using the Auto setting. But I got to a point where it was no longer matching my expectations, I was frustrated, I needed to learn how to use the other settings.

My journey started by taking classes at the Adult Learning Center, then one day I ventured into the RMSP Gallery and picked up a catalog. Wow! It was like being a little kid again flipping through the pages of a toy catalog and dreaming about getting all of them.

I attended the Basic Photography workshop then a two-day Lightroom class. I thought it was all I needed but the more I learned the more I realized there was so much to learn. The idea of doing Summer Intensive started creeping into my mind and I decided to register when a certain number "60" showed up on the radar. I was excited but a little concerned about my abilities to sustain an intensive schedule for 11 weeks. Well, I made it with the help of a black beverage better known as coffee.

It is hard to believe that two weeks ago I graduated from Summer Intensive, what a fantastic experience! I received a wealth of knowledge from excellent instructors on all aspects of photography. From understanding settings on the camera, learning the technical, composition, creativity, working in studio, printing, editing and much more. I now shoot on Manual and I know how to outsmart the meter!

The group of strangers I started the adventure with became a group of friends. We have shared the excitement, the stress, the fun, the doubts and the laughter, it is a special bond.

In a week I will do Pro Studies, Food and Product Photography, and next year who knows? Advanced Intensive? The journey continues...
