Mark LaRowe — Michigan
Course: Intermediate Photography
I have traditionally used “photography” as a way to document my life and travels. I used a nice film SLR,
and dragged it around diligently from place-to-place, taking shots with an untrained eye. As my interest
in wilderness backpacking evolved into a passion, dawn broke on Marble Head, and I realized that if I was
to effectively communicate my experiences and associated emotions to my audience, I needed to improve my
photographic skills. Enter RMSP’s nationwide Photo Weekends program (of which I attended one each in Grand
Rapids, MI and San Diego, CA) and subsequently a trip to Missoula for some more serious hands-on studies
in the Intermediate Course taught by Tony Rizzuto and Elizabeth Stone. After a very intense week of shoots,
lectures, and critiques, I could feel myself “seeing” my subjects at a whole new level, and then could use
the tools I was given to communicate my ideas and emotions. I highly recommend this course if you are
interested in building a better photographic technical and artistic foundation.
