You've been photographing for a while now and generally feel like you know what you're doing. You feel confident with your camera's controls and can create images with intention .... usually. But what you really lack, and desperately need, is real feedback on your work. You know firsthand that it's nearly impossible to make progress when you are living in your own photographic bubble.

The good news here is that you are not alone. Most photographers don't have supportive groups of other photographers available to offer constructive criticism of their work. Yes, Facebook and other online sharing platforms are helpful to a point, but they will never match up to the benefits of receiving person-to-person feedback. This course strives to pop all the photo bubbles out there and bring together photographers of all stripes in an environment where they can learn from, and be inspired by, each other's successes and failures.

There will be no dedicated shooting time or lectures involved in these sessions, rather 100% of the class time will be dedicated to providing and guiding feedback on participants' images, which will challenge and motivate you to push your boundaries.

What to submit for each session:
  • Session 1: 3-5 images from any genre(s) that you feel are pretty good but not quite right (even if you can't articulate why) -- This isn't about showing your best work; it's about getting helpful feedback on images that aren't quite your best work.
  • Session 2: 5-10 new images. This is an opportunity to take what you learned from the first critique and apply it to new work.
  • Session 3: 5-10 new images. This is an opportunity shoot with even greater intentionality!

Before the first session, you will receive an email with instructions for how to submit images.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS:

"Neil was thoughtful, offered excellent suggestions, and yet was very positive."

"Taking this course motivated me to work hard on new material. I went out and photographed more than I would have otherwise and spent more time working on the photos. I enjoyed seeing other people's work and hearing Neil's suggestions. These comments helped to shape my direction and thoughts about future work."
