Exposure Basics: Shooting in Manual Mode

This class is taught online only. RMSP uses Zoom for online education. We limit enrollment in online courses to ensure there is time for students to ask questions. Time will not be spent learning Zoom in class so we recommend familiarizing yourself with the platform prior to starting class. Click here to download the Zoom app on your computer. A Meeting ID number and password will be emailed to all registered students before the first class session. If you have not received login instructions 24 hours before the first class session, please email online@rmsp.com.

Learning photography starts here! This 3-session class is designed for photographers that already have a DSLR or Mirrorless camera and want to move beyond the auto mode. The emphasis of this class is all about understanding exposure and getting comfortable enough to start shooting in Manual.
Topics include:- What is exposure and how do we control it?
- What makes for a good or bad exposure
- How to read, understand, and use the histogram
- Photographing with our camera in MANUAL mode
- Understanding how the camera’s meter works and how to use it

This online class will meet on the following dates and at the following times:
- Wednesday, January 20: 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time - Zoom session
- Wednesday, January 27: 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time - Zoom session
- Wednesday, February 3: 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Mountain Standard Time - Zoom session
Equipment
Headphones or earbuds are strongly recommended for the purpose of minimizing audio feedback during the online class sessions.

Cancellation Policy
For Online Courses, tuition will be refunded in full if you notify RMSP at least two business days (48 hours) before the course begins. If you notify RMSP fewer than two business days prior to the course start date, full tuition is retained by RMSP.

Instructor
Rob Gappert is a landscape and nature photographer. He grew up in Bismarck, North Dakota but now calls Missoula home. Rob enjoys the outdoors and has been shooting landscapes for the better part of 15 years. He loves to travel with his family and is a self-proclaimed “National Park Junkie”. Rob is a 2015 Summer Intensive graduate and loves to share his passion for the art.
