Why did you choose this image?

This image feels timeless. Even though I don't smoke I can feel myself in the shoes of the old man whose hand reaches out before me, watching the clouds float, the grasses blow in the breeze. I can imagine a similar scene a hundred years ago, an elder standing on the same hill, smoking a pipe, watching the clouds float, chuckling to themselves as they squinted down their arm to where the cigarillo perches on a finger, reality suspended for a moment as a surreal puff of cloud smoke drifts from the glowing tip. The hand lowers, the world is no longer surreal. Or is it? The old man chuckles, winks, and ambles back across the more. Reality is nothing if not a subjective experience, the image can remind us of that.

really love the color palette on this image. the lights and patterns the golden light creates are killer, and I think the photographer did a great job at delivering an eye catching image that stands out from the rest.

Why did you choose this image?

I love everything about this image. So many images you see are pretty, but expected and obvious. This image is none of that. It makes you stop and think. The unique angle of view, the way her raised hand is casting a partial shadow across her face, and the graphic red lines really make it stand out. Every part of the frame feels thought out and intentional. I also really appreciate that I can't quite tell if the scene was lit or if available light was used. The more you look at it the more you see, and the more questions arise. I find myself wanting to talk to the artist about their process and their intentions. I also want to know the story of the woman who is in the photograph too. All-around an extremely well-executed and successful portrait!

Why did you choose this image?

This image is a “thumb-stopper.” It makes you stop scrolling to look at it more closely. At first glance, it almost looks like distant mountains on the horizon being reflected off a body of very still water. But then you look closer and see a face with an expression as serene as the “landscape” and then you understand what you’re looking at. I love that everything is clean and minimal - emphasized even more by the black and white edit. Really beautiful image.
