Are you looking to use long/telephoto lenses to capture images of small galaxies and nebulae in the night sky? Maybe you’ve already started, and you aren’t getting as many successful images as you had hoped for? Astrophotography can be one of the toughest genres in photography; it renders your camera's meter and autofocus unusable and challenges your camera's sensor to capture dim objects. That’s what makes it so fun!

In this class we will start by quickly covering foundational astrophotography concepts such as how to shoot star trails and the Milky Way. We will then move on to the main focus of the class: deep sky astrophotography and how you can take your images of galaxies and nebulae to the next level.

Topics include:
  • Imaging nebulae and galaxies
  • Star trails images
  • Milky Way images
  • Best camera settings
  • Exposure at night
  • Focusing at night
  • Stacking
  • Equipment
  • Understanding noise and how to minimize it
  • Capturing calibration frames to further enhance your images
  • How to grow with astrophotography as a hobby

Prerequisites: Confidence operating your camera in Manual mode as well as a thorough understanding of aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Preferably some night photography experience.

"Forest is a wealth of knowledge. He's punctual, available, professional and a great teacher. I liked the speed of the class. Not too fast, not too slow. Didn’t spend forever working on things in class so we could get the most information!"

"I appreciated that Forest started with some basics and gave us some tools to work with even as a newcomer to this type of photography."

"Forest did such an amazing job teaching us difficult concepts. He really made us feel like we have the tools already to do basic astro."
