The RMSP Summer Intensive was an amazing experience for me. From the day I was accepted into the program, the RMSP team cultivated a strong sense of community among the students online. When we all finally came together for our 6 weeks of intensive learning, the community building excelled further still. I feel that this approach was an important foundation to my entire experience. It created a comfortable environment for asking questions, asking for help and expressing myself. The instructors and assistants went above and beyond to make sure I was developing a full understanding throughout every stage of the process. The staff are patient, supportive and inclusive. Everyone at RMSP emanates a genuine drive to teach others. They are highly proficient in the material they teach and each instructor brings their own inspiring style into the classroom, which makes learning engaging and fun.

I went in with goals of becoming a more intentional photographer, further developing my technical skills and diving deeper into Lightroom. I came away with all of this and so much more. The classes are like building blocks that helped me become more proficient in what I already knew, but also leveled me up with new skills and technical workflows that took the guessing out of my photography and replaced it with time to be more creative and intentional. I learned the ins & outs of my camera and how to utilize its capabilities and improved my editing skills by leaps and bounds. I feel more creatively motivated than ever and I now have the confidence and skills to accomplish the images I set out to create.

The experience of having people come from all over, who hail from different walks of life, converging in one place to learn about something they share a passion for, is something very special, an energy that is indescribable. RMSP is a space where learning, camaraderie and connection thrive and this energy continues on even after Summer Intensive is over. I am very grateful for the friendships I’ve made, the opportunity to invest in myself and all of the knowledge I carry with me every time I pick up my camera.

Imagine spending the summer in the midst of mountains and bison and rivers and rodeos doing nothing but taking photographs. While attending a school where you receive the very best instruction with classes that challenge, inspire and improve your work. Where you go on field trips that expand your horizons and work alongside classmates who are supportive, encouraging and share your love of photography. The school is the Rocky Mountain School of Photography, the place is Missoula, Montana and believe it when they say, "we're all about you."  They are!

You, your photography and your success is the entire focus of everyone at RMSP. Last summer I attended RMSP, after spending years wanting to do so, and graduated from their Summer Intensive Program having learned more about photography than I thought possible. I began the summer taking pictures; I ended with an understanding of how to take photographs along with the skills to edit, print, and present them in whatever manner I choose. A month after returning home I participated in an art show and confidently displayed work that I had produced from start to finish.

Now, when someone asks me if I am a photographer, I say with conviction, yes, I am. The instructors, assistants and staff at RMSP all work in concert to ensure your success. Daily classes provide instruction, assignments, critique and the opportunity to discover and develop your own style. The long days of summer, in Montana, provide ample time to attend class, take photographs near and far and spend time with classmates enjoying all that Missoula and Montana have to offer.

The work is hard. The days are long and at the end of it all I had accomplished more than I ever thought possible. If you love taking photographs, if you want to take your level of expertise well above the next level, if you want to have the summer of your life and meet people and see places you will never forget come to Missoula, Montana and attend the Rocky Mountain School of Photography. The bison are waiting for you.

Attending RMSP Summer Intensive has been one of the best experiences and best decisions of my life. I was blown away by the professionalism, care and dedication by all the instructors and staff that helped me develop my technical skills, creativity and inspiration. There are no boring classes, no meaningless assignments, it is a very interactive, hands-on learning experience with industry professionals that make sure you are getting the most of each class. I also happen to have amazing, like-minded classmates that became friends!

In addition, RMSP is located in a city that shattered all my expectations, close to National Parks, surrounded by nature and home to some of the friendliest humans I've ever met (and great ice cream shops), Missoula has a special place in my heart. If you have a passion for photography and are wondering if RMSP is for you I would encourage you reach out to the school. I did, and it turned out to be a summer I will never forget.

Greetings beautiful people,

Imagine your best moment in life, something that to this day brings you joy (like looking at an old photograph). It takes you to that magical moment, it fills your heart. This is SI. it will be a magical memory, one that you’ll never regret, one that will last a lifetime.

Have you ever picked up a book and from the introduction you were hooked? You wondered how the author could pull you in so quickly, or how you were immediately in the story and you were able to clearly see the characters? You are so involved that you are startled by a sound or something or someone that needs your attention, it’s amazing how we can get so involved in a story, that we are blind to our surrounds. I absolutely love being captured by a good book.

This is SI, people, capturing you from the first moment, from your introduction online, through a friend, or however you came about the information on this wonderful world of photography. This is YOUR story, this is you becoming so involved that you forget about everything else. You are making a life-changing decision. It does not matter where you are in your journey in photography. This is the place to open your new-camera box or expand on knowledge you already have. Take a leap of faith, go forth with your decision, it will not be one of regret.

Jump, jump, jump, click, click, click. Awe man, I hope I just captured you, and helped you to make a decision to connect with like-minded people doing beautiful things with photography.

ONE CLICK, ONE LOVE, ONE SCHOOL, RMSP, it’s the place to be.

I have gained knowledge and friendships that will last for the rest of my life. Take a ride on the wild side; you will eat, drink, and sleep photography for 6 weeks and you will love each moment. Grow and glow my friends, grow and glow.

Robin Wilkes, SI 2021 — I’m glowing and growing ya’ll!!

I was so excited for Summer Intensive that I signed up in October and couldn’t stop dreaming about it until I got to Missoula in May. I had very high expectations about what I was going to get out of my summer in Montana. I have to say, my expectations were met and were exceeded. I came into SI with little knowledge on how to use my manual settings, I could use them but I had no idea what I was doing or why. Well, that started to change in the first week. I loved the curriculum that was used and how the instructors assigned our assignments.

We went out into the field and did it the wrong way and then the right way. That was so crucial in my learning experience. One of the best things going for me were my classmates. It’s amazing how well RMSP assigns groups; I have to say they hit it right on with ours. We always had encouragement from each other and the instructors, assistants, staff and owners. I’ve never been in such a loving learning environment. That was key to keeping myself going. Some days I thought, wow, what am I doing here and at about that time I would have a newfound friend tell me that yes, I was good enough. It is so amazing how fast we became a family, it didn’t matter where we came from or how old we were. I know that I will always be able to count on them. I came to SI knowing I would make new friends but I left with a new family and a new career. I will always cherish my time in Missoula at Rocky Mountain School of Photography.

I had dreamed about attending Rocky Mountain School of Photography for years, but was convinced that it was just a pipe dream that would never really happen. Then I realized that the only thing stopping me from going was myself. After that, there was no stopping me. I quit my job, stepped outside my comfort zone, and joined my fellow students in pursuit of an education in photography and a dream come true.

RMSP is the very definition of awesome. What’s the s chedule like? Busy. They don’t call it “intensive” for no reason. Did I learn a lot? So much my brain hurt. Are the instructors good? Not just good, they are fantastic – some of the best I have ever had! Was it worth it? Definitely. I made friends I will never forget, learned invaluable skills and techniques that will stick with me for the rest of my career, and best of all? I improved as a photographer in the midst of a support system that doesn’t exist anywhere else on the planet. Attending RMSP’s Summer Intensive course has been one of the most amazing summers I have ever experienced!
